Student Services

Hello, my name is Alexis Chin and I am your school counselor.
If you'd like to learn more about Student Services and what programs our school has to offer, then you've come to the right page. Happy Reading!

What is Student Services?

Student Services is made of the counselor, school social worker, and school psychologist. We have one goal in common... to help students achieve personal growth and success.

Contacting Our School Counselor

Parents may contact our school counselor, Ms. Chin, at (305) 223-9823 ext. 121. Students may also be referred to the counselors by an administrator, teacher, or parents. It is important for families to support the School Counseling program. The program is preventative in nature and intended to provide skills and resources that will enable your child to grow up in an emotionally wholesome manner. Remember, you do not need to have a problem to visit the counselor.  Counseling is for everyone!

What Do Counselors Do?

  • Counsels Students

The school counselor works with individual students to help them better express their concerns and problems, to better understand themselves and others, and to work toward positive educational, personal, and social development. A parent can access these services by speaking with their child's teacher, or with Ms. Chin.

The counselor also conducts small group counseling to enhance developmental areas such as friendship skills, anger management skills, conflict resolution skills, self-esteem building, and other areas that students may need.

  • Teaches Classroom Guidance

The school counselor teaches guidance lessons in the regular classroom to help students develop an awareness of self, others, and the world around them. Their academic, social and career development is fostered through a planned series of guidance activities throughout the school year.

  • Consults with Others

The school counselor consults with teachers to evaluate behaviors and individual need of students, to assist in enhancing the total development of the students, and to provide support when needed.

The counselor consults with parents to help with problems that may be occurring at school and at home, to follow up on concerns regarding their child's progress, and to help promote effective parenting skills.

The school counselor consults with administration to provide the most effective learning atmosphere the schools can offer.
